After having my second child, buying a house, starting a Master's program, and cutting back on my work hours, I realized I need to take more drastic measures to cut my family's monthly expenses. I went through six months of bank accounts and I can't believe how much we are spending on groceries and fast food. Part of the problem is my husband and I do seperate grocery shopping. So, I'm going to start taking over that shopping.
I've never paid too much attention to grocery prices. I thought I was doing a good job when I bought generic at Market Basket. I watched Extreme Couponing on TLC with my husband and we're both on board. I've been researching the many websites devoted to couponing. Yesterday was my first attempt. I had my newborn and 3 year old with me at Stop and Shop. I ended up with tons of Suave Body wash and saved $95. Now I have a very low price point for body wash. Although, I do need some for my husband.
I didn't do a ton of planning. I didn't figure out what to expect for cost and savings before hand, so the end result was a surprise to me. I think one of my coupons wasn't read by the computer. The cashier was a little annoyed with all the coupons. I definetely will get a better coupon binder for the store and organize them a little better next time. BUt for my first time and going with the kids, I felt pretty good. And I have to say, I feel a sense of pride in my newly formed stockpile.
I was frustrated to find a deal at CVS for a lot less on the Suave but I guess this will get easier with more practice.
